Regional organization established in October 6, 1990 after the signing of the Constitutive Act of the five party members of North Africa States, (Algeria, Mauritania, Morocco, Tunis & Libya). And joined later Egypt and Sudan. The CRTEAN has, in its Tunis headquarters, all the privileges and immunities as any international organizations.


The Center aims to encouraging the institutions in Member States for:
- Using remote sensing techniques and upstream systems in the areas of sustainable development and scientific research.
- Technologies Transfer.
- Capacity building for the member states.

Tunisia: National Center for Mapping and Remote Sensing (CNCT)
Morocco: the Royal Centre for Remote Sensing (CRTS)
Libya: Survey Department (SDL)
Mauritania: Ministry of transportation - dep. of DCIG
Egypt: National Authority for Remote Sensing and Space Sciences - NARSS
Sudan: Sudan National Survey Authority (SNSA)

 This project is managed and coordinates By The Regional Center For Remote Sensing of North Africa States (CRTEAN) and Funded by the World Bank, supported by GEF & Arab water council and technically supported by NASA.

This Project deals with the exploitation of water in Tunisia. It includes five axes:
- Flood Mapping and Modeling.
- Irrigation and Crop Mapping
- Drought
- Ground water storage
- Climate change
